The Lucky Cat
This project was a collaboration with Yalo Bu. I did the concept art, character designs, initial storyboards, and animation whereas Yalo did the AfterEffects, final storyboarding, sound design and the story map.
The video on the left is the final trailer video, whereas the video on the right is my own personal work compiled together. Below, you will see the design processes I did for the design of the monsters, Nara, and the cat.
Our project originated from a quick 2 hour one we had to do. This is the first design we quickly made of Nara. Her hair being white was something we always intended since it contrasted well with the background.

After the initial trailer, I started quickly making a sketch of what the character would look like colourised, to get an idea of what style to go for in the proper trailer.
Here you can see me try and go for some base ideas. I finalised with making Nara's hair look "glow-y" here.
Testing the colouring style to use, yet again. It was after this that we decided to go for something more indie RPG and using pixel art.
This was one of the final designs, using mainly pixel brushes. This design stayed pretty constant from here on out.
As you can see in the trailer, Nara is on the top right of the corner of the screen and this is simply a mock-up of what she would look like. The animation includes: - Blinking - Breathing - Eyes on the background blinking too.
Creating a formal reference of Nara Bell was important to do, this helped with both me and Yalo understanding what colours to use since Yalo made the overworld sprites.
